What is Oral Surgery?
Oral surgery refers to any surgical procedure performed in or around your mouth. Usually a dental specialist who is trained in certain oral surgeries performs these tasks. Oral surgeons treat facial trauma including: reconnecting severed nerves, set fractured jaw and facial bones, repair minor to severed facial skin lacerations. They also treat face injuries that include jaws, cheek and nasal bone, and oral tissue.
There are many kinds of oral surgery that can involve the jaw, mouth, or even your face. These surgeries may be performed by a number of dental specialists including prosthodontists, periodontists, and endodontists.
